We researched and found that the TrendNet modem should work. When we installed our Windows7 upgrade we were concerned about which modem to get since we found that not all of them were compatible. It shipped fast, installed easily, and works just fine. My husband and I recently purchased new desktop computers. His computer unfortunately didn't come with a modem which we needed to use our dial-up internet connection. I found the modem at Amazon for a very good price.
After calling Trendnet Support, there was no answer for this problem. I traced the problem to my computer modem. It always came back as "working properly." To get the final satisfaction, I purchased another modem from a different company and guess what. The Installation directions were lacking in detail, but a computer-savy person should have little problems. I have only one conclusion---the Trendnet modem was defective. It was blocking all phone calls when the computer was on or off.
It works great and does not block any calls. I purchased this product and installed it. The modem worked fine for around five weeks, at which time I stopped receiving phone calls on my home phone line. I tried switching phone lines, and went through all the diagnostics.
Great. This is what it is and it works. It's a PCI 56K modem and it works. Tried two modems that cost 4x as much from Best Buy but didn't work.
Was necessary to rub the gold connector contacts with a clean pencil eraser, and re-insert into the computer. Modem would not install correctly at first. After that the modem installed, and ran correctly.
So if you're ultimate goal is to connect to the internet then don't waste your time or your money on this modem or any other modem. Well I installed the card and got on, but the speed was only 3.2kb as opposed to the $30 a month cable speed I get of 185kb. Really I'm rating dial up internet 1 star. I bought this modem on the chance that I could set my inlaws up with dial up using net zero. It took 20 seconds just to load google.I don't know why else you would buy this other than to connect to the internet.
